Enterprise Monitoring Engineer
We are looking for an enterprise monitoring engineer with solid architectural, implementation, and administration skills utilizing the Micromuse Netcool monitoring system. Experience in designing and implementing custom monitoring solutions (Perl, Shell, C++), and experience gathering and reporting on server and process performance metrics highly desirable, but not mandatory.
Candidates will report to the Director of Global Architecture, and have the following primary responsibilities:
* Work on the enterprise monitoring team, and help administer the existing Netcool monitoring system - troubleshooting, upgrades, adding/creating new features, creating new dashboards, etc. in support of the NOC team.
* Help design and implement custom monitoring solutions in support of the overall monitoring architecture.
* Writing rules and creating thresholds in Omnibus engine.
* Writing Impact Rules to implement monitoring policies
* Working with Webtop view .ELC files
* Impact and Webtop, understanding of development processes, operating systems and hardware components, with a command of common scripting languages
* Working in Sybase database that Netcool populates with event data
* Configuring probes and gateways to work in the environment and implement IT policies
* Create and maintain processes to profile server and process performance, perform analysis and create detailed performance reports
* Successful candidate will posess a minimum of:
* Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in CS, MIS, Information Systems, or equivilent foundational work experience
* 3+ Years Netcool direct experience in a large-scale deployment
* Detailed knowledge of engineering and operations functions in Netcool environment, including understanding and command of the software product set including Netcool Core, Impact, Proviso, Precision, Visionary; Webtop/Portal, Reporter, ISMs, SSM/ASM, TSM; Database/SQL, reporting
* Deep understanding of operational processes, controls, change management requirements and adherence to a formal software release methodology
* 6+ years of distributed computing engineering experience in complex large-scale environments
* Ideal candidate will also possess:
* Experience writing scripts and programs to perform custom monitoring tasks.
* Experience with server and process performance metrics and analysis
